synopsis
For hundreds of commuters it is just a routine trip form the quiet of Staten Island to the frenzy of Manhattan. But not for all. Every morning a fascinating group of women spends those 30 minutes gathered around the mirrors in the Powder Room of the Staten Island Ferry. As they put on their make-up they transform themselves form housewives to business women. Juggling multiple worlds these women have hilarious and serious insights beyond race and class stereotypes.

director
Katja Esson just received an Academy Award nomination for "Ferry Tales". As a German-born, New York based writer/director who mixes documentary, narrative and experimental genres, she has created numerous documentaries, including "Miami que Linda es Cuba" (1994), "Vertical Traveler" (2001), and "Searching for Sense" (2002). Her latest film, "Adam - Made to Order Savior" for the European ARTE Channel, is currently broadcast on Europe's ARTE Channel. Other credits include short films, music videos and commercials. Esson is currently in production with a documentary that takes a very different look at the magicians "Siegfried and Roy" and she is in pre-production with the narrative short, "A Season of Madness," based on the story by best-selling author Han al Shaykh.
