About the director
Emily Ann Hoffman is an award-winning animator, filmmaker and artist based out of Brooklyn, NY. She is currently a Sundance Ignite Fellow, as well as a screenwriting mentee with the Sundance Institute's Feature Film Program. She has recently emerged from an Emerging Artist fellowship at the Jacob Burns Film Center where she wrote, shot and directed two short films. She graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2015.
Filmmaker's note
I like to tell visually dynamic stories that evaluate the nuanced facets of desire and identity from a relatable, comedic perspective. Nevada explores the consequences and rewards of physical and emotional desires through the experience of a new couple who dance around their own, and each other's, feelings in order to make the best of an unfortunate situation. The story toys with traditional gender roles of sensitivity and independence, but ultimately showcasing the physical burden sex bears on women's bodies through the ever-present risk of pregnancy and consequentially invasive birth control methods.
