synopsis My film is about three people, two in the present and one in the past. My friends Marilyn and Yasmine both became pregnant last spring. I know about teen pregnancy, because my mom was a teenager when she had me. I wanted to follow my friends through their pregnancies and also to learn more about my own birth, and the circumstances surrounding it. (Lizbeth Mejia, 16, Secondary School for Journalism) director I was born in Puebla, Mexico. I remember crossing the border into Arizona with my family when I was three years old. My uncle met us and took us to Brooklyn. It was tough. My brother suffered from asthma and my mother was unable to work because he was in the hospital so much. When she did work it was making clothes in a sweatshop. No one ever spoke English to me until I went to kindergarten. By the eighth grade I knew I wanted to make a documentary film. Although I loved books, fiction films didn't interest me. Fiction is about imagination. Documentaries are about real life, and my opinion about the world. (Lizbeth Mejia) filmography - Journey to the Unknown (2005) notes Director Lizbeth Mejia will be available for Q&A after the screening. related links
