synopsis Proof of Birth tells the story of Luis Gonzalez, a young illegal Mexican immigrant on a quest to obtain a legal driver's license in New York City. director José Luis Orbegozo recently graduated from the Columbia University M.F.A. film program. His thesis short film PROOF OF BIRTH was honored as a Faculty Selects film at the 2007 Columbia University Film Festival -the highest recognition for a film project. With his writing partner Michael Niederman, Jose Luis wrote the feature script SAINT CARLOS OF GOWANUS, selected to the 2006 NALIP- Screenwriters Lab, sponsored by TimeWarner. SAINT CARLOS was also recognized as a Faculty Selects feature screenplay at the 2007 Columbia University Screenwriting Competition.
