Rules & Requirements - Brooklyn Int'l Film Festival

DEADLINES & FEES
Final deadline: Posted by March 15, 2008 (entry fee $50)
CATEGORIES
Feature Narrative, Short Narrative, Experimental, Documentary, Animation.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Language
All films must be in English or with English subtitles.
Running Time
Feature (narrative): no less than 70 minutes
Short film: less than 70 minutes
Documentary, Animation and Experimental: no limitations.
Prior Screenings
Entries shall not have theatrical release or be broadcast anywhere in the U.S. before June 10, 2008. Previous screenings at other film festivals are acceptable. The "New York Premiere" status is preferred, but not mandatory.
Completion Date
Projects submitted to the Festival must have been completed after June 1, 2006.
Works-in-progress are considered only during the final submission deadline and if the film will be completed by May 15, 2008.
Independent Production
Films produced, financed, or initiated by a major motion picture studio are
not eligible for the competition.
Screening Fees
BiFF does NOT CONSIDER films that require SCREENING/RENTAL FEES.
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Format
Preview copy must be submitted on VHS or DVD. Both PAL and NTSC systems are accepted. Region free DVDs are preferred but we accept all regions.
Entry Fee
Each entry must be accompanied by the appropriate entry fee. Entry fees are
not refundable. These fees may be paid by check, money order, traveler's check
(all the above made payable in US Dollars to BiFF) or by credit card. BiFF Alumni: BIFF may waive the entry fee to directors who have screened in previous editions and submit a new project with the "New York Premiere Status" or better.
MANDATORY Accompanying Materials
- Print out of the Entry Form completed in all required fields and signed
- Preview copy: Both the case and the preview copy must be labeled with the title, running-time,
and contact information. Preview copies and promotional material will be retained
by the festival.

OPTIONAL Accompanying Materials
- Photo(s) from the film
- If receipt of entry is required, include a self-addressed stamped postcard.
- Press kit, Poster, Postcard and additional promotional material.
To reduce paper consumption, BiFF no longer accepts promotional materials on paper (Photos, Press kits, etc). BiFF ONLY ACCEPTS electronic promotional materials submitted on CD or DVD disks.

Additional Materials & Deadlines
If your film is selected, you must provide the following:
By May 10, 2008
- Press kits, including photos (2 or more kits)
- Posters / Postcards and other available publicity material
- Additional screening copies (DVD or VHS) of the film.
By May 25, 2008
- The screening copy in the best available format accepted by the festival.
Shipping
For all materials, shipping and handling costs to the festival office will
be covered by the entrant. Preview copies and promotional material will be retained
by the festival.
Publicity & Special Programs
Selected projects may be promoted through all media types and outlets for promotional purposes. In addition, BIFF reserves the right to re-screen the accepted projects at events and promotional showcases featuring festival's highlights.
