Rules & Requirements - Brooklyn Int'l Film Festival



DEADLINES
Early deadline: Postmarked by November 30, 2009 (EXPIRED)
Final deadline: Postmarked by March 15, 2010 (entry fee $50)
Postmarked by = Submission packages can be mailed until the day of the deadline.


CATEGORIES
Feature Narrative, Short Narrative, Experimental, Documentary, Animation.


ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Language
All films must be in English or with English subtitles.

Screening or Rental Fees
BiFF does NOT CONSIDER films that require SCREENING/RENTAL FEES.

Running Time
Feature (narrative): no less than 60 minutes
Short film: less than 60 minutes
Documentary, Animation and Experimental: no limitations.

Prior Screenings
Entries can not have theatrical run (commercial release) or be broadcast (TV) anywhere in the U.S. before June 15, 2010. Previous screenings at other film festivals as well as private, industry, and press screenings are OK. The "New York Premiere" status is preferred, but not mandatory.

Completion Date
Projects submitted to the Festival must have been completed after June 1, 2008. Works-in-progress are considered only during the final submission deadline and if the film will be completed by May 15, 2010.

Independent Production
Films produced, financed, or initiated by a major motion picture studio are not eligible for the competition.

To reduce the festival's carbon footprint, BiFF no longer accepts Promotional Materials, Press Kits or Photos.


SUBMISSION PACKAGE REQUIREMENTS
Entry Form
Each submission must have a completed and signed ENTRY FORM. To prepare an entry form for your submission, click SUBMIT and follow the instructions.

DVD Preview Copy Format
Preview copy must be submitted on DVD. Both PAL and NTSC systems are accepted. Region 1 (US & Canada) and region 0 (region free) DVDs are preferred but we accept all regions. DVD Preview copies will be retained by the festival.

Entry Fee
Each submission must be accompanied by the entry fee.

Final deadline: Entry Fee $50 (March 15, 2010)
    Entry Fees can be paid by:
    - Credit Card through PayPal
    - Personal, Company or Bank check ($ USD)
    - Money Order ($ USD)
    - Traveler's check ($ USD)
    - Contact us for Bank Wires (Bank Wires are subject to an additional $10 to cover our bank's incoming wire fee.)
All Entry Fee payments must be in US Dollars, be drawn on a bank in the USA, and be made payable to BIFF, Inc. Entry fees are not refundable.
BiFF Alumni: BIFF may waive the entry fee to directors who have screened in previous editions and submit a new project with the "New York Premiere Status" or better.


RULES FOR SELECTED FILMS
Filmmakers selected for the competition will be notified by May 10, 2010.

Additional Materials & Deadlines
IF your film is selected, you must provide the following:
    By May 15, 2010
    - Electronic Press kits & High Resolution Digital Photos
    - Posters / Postcards and other available publicity material
    - Additional preview copies (DVD) of the film.

    By May 25, 2010
    - The screening copy in the best available format accepted by the festival.
Shipping
For all materials, shipping and handling costs to the festival office will be covered by the entrant. DVD Preview copies will be retained by the festival.

Publicity & Special Programs
Selected projects may be promoted through all media types and outlets for promotional purposes. In addition, BIFF reserves the right to re-screen the accepted projects at events and promotional showcases featuring festival's highlights.
