Synopsis
Obsessed with forgiveness, filmmaker Abigail Holland builds a self portrait through men and objects they left behind.
About the director
Abigail Holland is a writer + director for theatre and film. She creates work about bizarre women navigating bizarre circumstances. Her work has screened at Brooklyn Film Festival, Florida Film Festival, RiverRun, Filmfort, NFFTY and Motivate Underground Film Festival. She is an alum of UNCSA's Drama Directing program, a former Peter F. Sloss fellow at Berkeley Repertory Theatre, and has worked with MCC, Signature Theatre, NAMT, 24 Hour Plays: Broadway + Nationals and the North Carolina Symphony. Recently, Abigail travelled to Italy to develop her next project at La MaMa’s international writer’s retreat, with full financial support from the Kenan Institute.
Filmmaker's note
After losing my father I began to understand a much different relationship- one with an old boyfriend. While making this film I discovered parallels of loss, contradiction, forgiveness with two men who shaped me as I grew out of girlhood.
Interested in extending the thorny mess of grief into film, "kid with a pearl earring" challenges simplified narratives around desire, father daughter relationships, and girlhood.
