About the director
Keiya Ando is a director, writer, and showrunner who studied film directing at a university in California. After returning to Japan, he made his directorial debut at Ame Inc., where he helmed commercial and promotional content for major networks such as the Discovery Channel and Animal Planet. He later joined the planning and directing division at TYO Inc., conceptualizing and directing numerous high-profile commercial campaigns.
Transitioning to a freelance career, Ando shifted his creative focus entirely to narrative filmmaking. His directed films and original screenplays have earned official selections and awards at a multitude of international festivals, including the Oaxaca FilmFest, Beverly Hills Film Festival, Sapporo International Short Film Festival, Asian Film Festival of Dallas, and Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival.
In 2023, Dragons of Wonderhatch—for which Ando co-created the original story concept—premiered globally as Japan's first original Disney+ series. That same year, his original feature-length screenplay garnered recognition at several prestigious Hollywood script competitions, including Filmmatic, The Golden Script Competition, and the Flickers' Rhode Island International Film Festival. Continuing to elevate his screenwriting career, his work was selected as one of just 10 projects for the 2024 Sundance Screenwriters Lab.
Most recently, his 2025 3DCG animated short film, See You Tomorrow, secured nominations at 11 international film festivals, including the Cleveland International Film Festival and Dances With Films. The film also won the Grand Prix at the Global Stage Hollywood Film Festival and Best Animated Short at the Montreal International Animation Festival.
Filmmaker's note
This is a story about hope. We live our lives believing that tomorrow will always come. Yet tomorrow is never guaranteed. An accident, an illness, a disaster—each new day is a miracle we often take for granted.
In 2011, Japan experienced a devastating earthquake that reminded us how fragile tomorrow can be. More recently, the global pandemic forced us all to face the possibility of losing our lives, or our loved ones, without warning. And now, wars across the world leave countless people living every day under the shadow of death.
This film was made with one simple truth at its core: tomorrow may never come. That is why today—this very moment—matters so deeply. To live without regret, to cherish the present, and to tell the people we love that they matter, now, not later.
When the credits roll, I believe audiences will feel an urge to reach out to someone they love—whether it’s with a phone call, a message, or a quiet word in person—and say, “You are important to me.” If this film leaves you with a renewed gratitude for today, then it has fulfilled its purpose. That is also why I chose the title See You Tomorrow—a phrase filled with irony, since tomorrow is never promised.
