About the director
Ruby Zatz (she/her) is an LA based filmmaker. Originally from New York, Zatz attended Oberlin College for Cinema Studies and spent a semester in film production at the Prague Film School. Zatz has produced two independent feature films, "Narcosis" (2022) and "Don’t Mind Me" (2022), as well as many short films and music videos. Now with "Good Girl!" Zatz is finally stepping into the director’s chair with her directorial debut short film.
Filmmaker's note
The films I make and the stories I tell often examine the dynamics in female friendships. The idea for Good Girl! came to me as I searched for a bizarre way to capture a feeling common in this universe: opening up to a friend only to be met with harsh and unexpected judgement. On a deeper level, this is also a coming out story - whatever coming out might mean to you. For my co-producer Celeste deBardelaben and I, close friends and collaborators who are also queer, this story felt personal. With Good Girl! I felt I was bringing justice to my own experience, and to anyone else who has found themselves in the heat of the dog days.
