BFF SPECIAL PRESENTATION: “THE GATHERING”

This year’s Brooklyn Film Festival will feature the largest presence of female directors in the festival’s history, with women accounting for four out of six programmers. Inspired by the acceleration of women’s movements, BFF’s 2019 theme-statement, “The Gathering,” aims to empower filmmakers who are thinking and working in critical systems—outside of the box, and against all odds.

So instead of making a commercial for this year’s festival, we’ve chosen to send a message to Hollywood by releasing a movie – because that is a language we both speak.

“The Gathering” is a short film presented by the Brooklyn Film Festival, inspired by real accounts of alleged sexual misconduct in the film industry. The story is about three actresses who were denied roles due to harassment, and a chance encounter that reveals their shared experience. Combining film genres, tropes and time periods,  the film is an allegory about opportunities lost, and a reminder to Hollywood that every story matters.
