Humantises are masters of deception. But can they hide from change? When one Humantis unexpectedly goes through a physical transformation, it struggles to adapt and grow into its new self.

About the director
PARIS BAILLIE IS AN ARTIST, AND ANIMATION FILMMAKER FROM LOS ANGELES. SHE RECEIVED A BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN STUDIO ART FROM SKIDMORE COLLEGE IN 2017, CONCENTRATING IN PAINTING AND ANIMATION. RECENTLY SHE GRADUATED FROM CALARTS WITH A MFA IN EXPERIMENTAL ANIMATION. PARIS’S STOP-MOTION SHORT FILMS INVITE YOU IN TO HER LOVE OF WORLD BUILDING AND HER TULPA CHARACTERS.
Filmmaker's note
Paris developed Humantis while she was a graduate student at CalArts. The Humantis characters are inspired by her love of Orchid Praying Mantises. After researching different forms of mantis camouflage, she felt that it related to her feelings of hiding from change. She wanted to make a film about her distaste for change because sometimes it is hard to know if it is for the better. Paris enjoys being involved in all aspects of stop motion film making. She developed the look of the characters and sets, designed the lighting, animated everything, and then created the sound design for the film.
