Filmmaker's note

The last time I was in my childhood house, I didn’t realize it would be the last time. My dad had sold it and moved by the time I visited again. Considering that my mother had passed away nearly a decade before, it was further affirmation of what my family already knew to be true: the only true constant is change.

After that, I started documenting everything in my hometown as it changed nearly every time I went back. I began interviewing my grandparents regularly, partly so that I would always have their images, voices, and wisdom on hand for the rest of my life, but also because they seemed to enjoy it. Every session we had produced more memories, more insights, and more rejuvenation for them. This led me to become more reflective. I started doing an exercise where I would write down every memory I could possibly think of, most of which took place in the locations I was constantly filming.

With this project, I not only wanted to preserve this moment in time, but I also wanted to capture the melancholy I feel when I’m in these spaces with these memories. I wanted to give the viewer space to become reflective themselves, recalling places and experiences similar to the ones presented in the story, so that hopefully, they imprint a personal connection onto the film.
