About the director

Tinge Krishnan's company, Disruptive Element Films, was set up in 1995. Tinge had previously graduated with a Bachelor in Medicine in 1993 and worked as a hospital doctor until 1994, when she left to take the NYU postgraduate in film. Graduating from NYU in 1996, she was selected in 1999 as one of four directors to write and direct a three minute piece RANDOM NIGHTS, shot in a day, to celebrate the launch of the FilmFour Lab at the 1999 Edinburgh Film Festival. Her first film, GROOVE ON A STANLEY KNIFE (40 mins) was part funded by YMPA, won several awards and international critical acclaim. It was sold to Channel 4 in 1996. Shadowscan, made under the BFI/FilmFour 'New Directors' scheme, won a BAFTA for Best Short Film in 2001. In Dec 2004 she was a survivor/volunteer of the tsunami in Phuket and was on the management team that set up the International Victim Co-ordination centre. 2007 saw Disruptive Element produce their first music video which has aired on MTV for the band Bib, FIRST commissioned and completed, and Tinge selected to direct a drama for C4 and IWC's 'Coming Up' talent scheme, where emerging film-makers have the opportunity to make an authored drama with a guaranteed network broadcast. "The Circle," is due to air on Channel 4 later this year. 2008 has seen Tinge sign with Casarotto Ramsay & Associates Limited and @Radical.Media for Music Video's and adverts. Tinge recently completed the Music Video for Emmanuel Jal's first release "War Child", is in pre-production on her first feature "Junkhearts," written by Simon Frank and Produced by Karen Katz, and is in post-production on the short Honey and Razorblades shot on location in Thailand. This short film centres on a young tourist couple filled with excitement and enthusiasm- who, little do they know, are about to be plunged into a dark and testing emotional journey.
