WHEN IS THE NEXT FESTIVAL? The Brooklyn Film Festival will take place in June 2011. WHEN IS THE NEXT SUBMISSION DEADLINE? 2011 Edition submissions WILL OPEN SEPTEMBER 1st, 2010 as follows. - November 30th, 2010 - Early Deadline - entry Fee $30 - March 16th, 2011 - Final Deadline - entry Fee $50 Subscribe to our newsletter to be notified when submissions open. IN WHICH FILM CATEGORIES DO YOU ACCEPT SUBMISSIONS? Categories: Feature Narrative, Short Narrative, Experimental, Documentary, Animation. + rules IS THE FESTIVAL COMPETITIVE? YES. Through the resources of industry-related sponsors, the festival awards the winners with a total of approximately US $50,000 in film services and cash. + AWARDS WILL I RECEIVE FEEDBACK OR COMMENTS ON MY FILM? NO. Due to the high volume of submissions received every year, we are unable to provide feedback on your film. HOW MANY FILMS CAN I SUBMIT? As many as you like. Although each film must have its own screening copy, signed submission form, and entry fee. DO NOT submit multiple projects on the same DVD. Additionally, we recommend that you use the same main email address for all your submissions. HOW MANY FILMS DO YOU ACCEPT IN THE FESTIVAL? We estimate that the next festival line-up will include about 110 films. ARE THERE ANY TIME RESTRICTIONS? Narrative Features must be no less than 60 minutes. Narrative Short films not longer than 60 minutes. Documentary, Animation, and Experimental categories have no time restrictions. + rules CAN I RELEASE MY FILM THEATRICALLY OR ON BROADCAST TELEVISION BEFORE THE FESTIVAL? Entries shall not have theatrical release or be broadcast anywhere in the U.S.A. before the last day of the festival. Previous screening at other festivals, as well as industry, press, and private screenings are OK. CAN I SUBMIT MY FILM IF PREVIOUSLY SCREENED AT OTHER FESTIVALS? YES. There is no maximum number of festivals at which the film may be screened. The "New York Premiere" status is preferred, but not mandatory. SCREENING FORMAT FOR SELECTED FILMS: The projects selected for the Festival, if not available on a 35mm film print, will be projected in HDCam, Digi-Beta, Beta, DV-Cam or MiniDV formats. We accept both NTSC and PAL. Due to technical constraints, BiFF no longer accepts 16mm screening copies. + requirements WHAT IS THE KIDSFILMFEST? KidsFilmFest is an exciting initiative of the Brooklyn Film Festival. The sixth annual edition will take place in June 2011. Rolling Submissions are open through WAB (Without a Box). For further information visit www.kidsfilmfest.org WHERE ARE THE SELECTED FILMS SHOWN? For the 2010 edition the official venues of the festival were IndieScreen and Brooklyn Heights Cinema. + venues WHICH PREVIEW COPY FORMATS DO YOU ACCEPT? Entries must be submitted on DVD. BiFF accepts both PAL and NTSC formats. Region 1 (US&Canada) and region 0 (no region) are preferred but we accept DVDs in all regions. We recommend that you TEST your disk on a stand-alone DVD player BEFORE sending it to our offices. + requirements I SUBMITTED MY FILM LAST YEAR BUT IT WAS NOT SELECTED. CAN I RESUBMIT MY FILM? We allow it, but we don't encourage it... To resubmit a film, the film must be significantly re-edited. A film may be resubmitted more than once if it has been worked on in the last year. CAN I SUBMIT A WORK-IN-PROGRESS OR "ROUGH CUT"? Works-in-progress are considered only if submitted during the LAST TWO WEEKS PRIOR THE FINAL SUBMISSION DEADLINE (between March 1st and March 16th). Fimmakers might submit a Work-in-progress only if the film is scheduled to be completed at least 3 weeks before the beginning of the festival (June). Please list directly on the tape/disk box which elements of your film are missing.
