Synopsis
Trauma is the invisible force that shapes our lives. It shapes the way we live, the way we love and the way we make sense of the world. It is the root of our deepest wounds. Dr. Maté gives us a new vision: a trauma-informed society in which parents, teachers, physicians, policy-makers and legal personnel are not concerned with fixing behaviors, making diagnoses, suppressing symptoms and judging, but seek instead to understand the sources from which troubling behaviors and diseases spring in the wounded human soul.

About the directors
Zaya Benazzo - Zaya Benazzo has degrees in Engineering, Environmental Science, and Film. Born in Bulgaria, she produced and directed several award winning documentaries in Europe and the USA, including Energy for Survival, Hunger Gathering, Airwaves, Wings and Strings, Screaming Queens, America's Chemical Angels and more.
Maurizio Benazzo - Maurizio Benazzo grew up in Genova, Italy. At an early age he began actively traveling the spiritual path, exploring the practices of Zen Buddhism, Transcendental Meditation, Yogic philosophy, Catholicism and Philosophy. He has experience in all aspects of production both in front of and behind the camera, including acting, directing, cinematography, and distribution. Amongst many other films, in 2004 he directed, produced and self distributed theatrically the award winning film "Short Cut to Nirvana."

How are you? Zaya and Maurizio here. 15 years ago, when we first met, we paused our filmmaker career and founded a not for profit called "Science and nonduality", SAND in short (have you heard of it????) www.scienceandnonduality.com . It has been a fascinating journey of blessings mixed with hard work and we now have a worldwide loyal community on our side. But the movie bug is hard to eliminate, so we decided to get back to making full length films and now, 4 years later, we are excited to share with you our movie: "The Wisdom of Trauma - Can our deepest pain be a doorway to healing?". In this feature doc we follow Dr. Gabor Mate in his journey to the root of trauma and how it impacts our society at large. A very important and timely topic for the world in this evolving and confusing time.
