Synopsis
Matty drives cross country to track down his estranged father, bringing the only thing his dad left him: a treasured collection of Kenny Rogers cassette tapes. Things do not go as planned, and Matty must choose between remaining stuck in the past—and the anger that resides there—or struggling forward into something new.
About the director
As a director, Merlin is particularly focused on visual storytelling and the craft of working with actors. Merlin’s films have been featured in publications including Vice and Out Magazine, and at festivals including Brooklyn Film Festival, Marfa, and Telluride Horror Show. As a commercial director, Merlin has created work on behalf of brands including Sprite, Coca-Cola, Uber, and ARRI. Merlin is an alumnus of the Kyoto Filmmakers Lab and was selected for the SHOOT New Directors Showcase for work on behalf of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. Recently, Merlin wrote and directed COWARD, a short film produced in collaboration with Cartel Films (Val, [A24]; If I Go Will They Miss Me [2022 Sundance winner]), and is currently in the final stage of post production on his first feature, THE SNARE. Merlin holds an MFA in film directing from UCLA and a Juris Doctorate from Northwestern University.
