About the director
Aliya Kamalova is a Los Angeles-based writer, director, and performer born in Kazakhstan and raised in Texas. Her work centers around confident idiots, shy people, and everyone living in the gap between who they are and who they're pretending to be. Her short film Word of Mouth premiered at HollyShorts in 2024 and her new short, Scratch, premieres at SIFF 2026. She co-created the indie sketch pilot All This for What? (2022) and is currently in pre-production on her debut feature Pistols at 3:45, a mockumentary produced by Abso Lutely.
