THEME: THRESHOLD
For the festival, this was a very special year. BFF is finally 21! We all feel more “mature” and ready to cross that imaginary, but solid line! We start seeing things for what they really are. Although, it doesn’t take a genius to see that we are living in pretty bad times! And it’s not easy to feel great. Not right now. Division, bigotry, the wall, Trump…but luckily, bad times don’t only produce bad things. Some great stuff can come from bad times. Like great art. For example, the Spanish Civil War gave us the Guernica, the NYC defaults in the 70’s gave us the best graffiti in the world. Even the great depression gave us swing dancing. It doesn’t matter how bad it looks, art always wins. And this year’s festival is not going to be the exception. In the middle of this undeniably shitty time in American history, directors, actors and producers wanted their voice heard. Bad times make great art. And because of it, this year’s Brooklyn Film Festival was amazing. Happy birthday BFF. Happy 21st.
